ImageIn Ezekiel 33:31-32, God tells the prophet, “My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words, but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain.Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice.”

Father, help me to hear your words profoundly, in a life changing way, with true faith and obedience.  Redeem me from any hypocrisy, selfishness, inattention, shallowness, or preconceived notions that might prevent me from truly hearing.  Help me to not only hear your words, but to hear the people around me and the cries of their hearts.  Let me not rush past someone with such shallow, self-focused ears that I fail to hear.
